Hyphen is a foodservice platform designed to help restaurant owners, operators, and budding chefs move their businesses forward by putting their kitchen operations on autopilot. After experiencing a crucible moment amidst the global pandemic in 2020 (you can read more here), Hyphen was born to help restaurants in a time of need. Today, we have customers across the US with reservations for hundreds of systems to design, build, and deploy.

The Opportunity:
As a senior mechanical engineer at Hyphen, you will design and produce hardware solutions for our automated makeline, which, in this case, is ingredient dispensing systems. You will get to own food dispensing products from concept to production, utilizing your mechanical engineering background in the challenging field of food automation. The role involves collaboration with culinary operations, design, manufacturing, and software engineers to determine design criteria and build dispensing systems quickly and effectively.
Who You Are:
- You have a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or equivalent in experience and ability.
- You have 7+ years of mechanical engineering industry experience, including owning products from concept to production.
- You have a strong understanding of the first principles of engineering.
- You find large challenges exciting and enjoy discovering and defining problems as much as solving them.
- You deliver. You may enjoy thoughtful conversations about problems and perfecting designs, but ultimately, you know that providing a manufacturable solution that works every time matters.
- You are very hands-on. While we work with various outside vendors, you own the complete lifecycle of the product. This includes hand-building prototypes and testing them to educate the final design.
- You are a cross-disciplinary team member. You are excited to work with and learn from software, mechanical, and electrical engineers, and culinary operations. You are comfortable communicating across teams.
- You are resourceful, flexible, and adaptable; no task is too big or too small.
Preferred Qualifications:
- You have experience with electromechanical design and products.
- You have experience with validation engineering and process development.
- You have experience with value engineering and cost reduction.
- You have experience designing plastic injection molded parts.
- You have experience with many prototype processes (3D printing, machining, quick turn tools, etc.).
- You have OnShape and/or Solidworks CAD experience.
- You are willing to travel, generally to Asia, up to 20% of the time.
